More than five storeys tall, weighing an estimated 40 tons, each of the four wheels higher than the tallest human, the annual Deepam Car Festival is a spectacular celebration of divinity, when the giant wooden car, freshly painted and gaily decorated, is drawn through the streets of Tiruvannamalai, South India, by thousands of human hands pulling on massive iron chains, each link of which is half as long as a human forearm, while tens of thousands more fill the air with cries of "Annamalai Arohara!" (Hail Shiva!).
