Ugandan Skateboarders

This is the story of the first Ugandan skateboarders, who built a skatepark themselves in a working-class suburb of Kampala. With no assistance from government or large NGO’s, kids from Uganda took significant steps to overcome boredom and poverty through skateboarding.

Skateboarding keeps the youth busy, combats the developement of negative habits and develops a sense of community.

Gqwesa

Gqwesa is a Xhosa word meaning 'glamour' or 'fame'. It's the first word that comes to mind when I asked some trendy young South African's in Cape Town if they'd like to be in an international magazine. They want to be famous, 'gquesa!'. After 15 years of incredible transformation since democracy, young South African's are still finding their voice and grabbing every opportunity to be exposed to the world.

John Deny & Pablo Escobar

This is John Deny, teenager I met through a friend. He caught my attention when my friend mentioned that John was an admirer of Pablo Escobar who was the leader of the biggest cocaine cartel in Colombia, who was captured and killed in the 90's. I live in Medellin, Colombia, where John Deny lives, and where Pablo Escobar built his cocaine empire through murder and corruption.
