Japanese Tenagers 'University Debut'

How do Japanese teenagers express themselves in a society restricted by manners and politeness? These Japanese students are experiencing what is called the ‘University Debut. It is a unique time when young people are released from the manners and restrictions of home and education. Teenage Soldiers

It's a time of exploration, independence, hardship and excessive flirtation... the Israeli army. While well known to anyone in the Middle East, very few watching the regular sensational news clips of Israeli bombings, arrests or checkpoint conflagrations realize that these soldiers are, in fact, largely teenagers.

Mandatory for all Israelis, female and male alike, the army is an age-specific period in the lives of almost all Israelis signifying the last stage of the teenage years.

Smarteez

What's hip in the heart of South Africa? Ask Johannesburg based photographer Chris Saunders and he'll show you the eclectic nu rave fashion scene on the streets of Soweto. Brown on the inside, multi-coloured on the outside, the Smarteez are a tribe of young ghetto-fresh fashioinistas often compared to the Tokyo's Harajuku Girls.

Just Playing Around

The innocence of youth, childhood slowly giving way to the teenage years.

Side Lies

The coach placed him on the team to bridge a gap between "jocks" and "skaters" - an all too common phenomenon in the 90's. Mike, the athletically inclined skater, is too small to help the coach achieve his main interest: WINNING. This photo was taken in the early 90's by Mike's dad. Mike is now 33, produces music and paints trains.
