What's hip in the heart of South Africa? Ask Johannesburg based photographer Chris Saunders and he'll show you the eclectic nu rave fashion scene on the streets of Soweto. Brown on the inside, multi-coloured on the outside, the Smarteez are a tribe of young ghetto-fresh fashioinistas often compared to the Tokyo's Harajuku Girls.

The shots do look styled, but all the same, their approach to dressing is very effervescent! It definitely reminds me of my parents circa the 70s in Nigeria. Despite hardship of the times, both were able to piece together outfits that were disgustingly fresh. Like my parents and the Smarteez alike, I think creativity shines through when you're challenged in some way.

One thing I can guarantee is that the shoot was not styled. They go out and find what ever they can and make it into things they desire. This way you can be Smart with EEZ. Ct
